Innovate the system with this week's Full Moon in Aquarius

Hey everyone,

This is a powerful week to open your mind and play around in the realm of thoughts, ideas, and new concepts that you can bring into your life. The goal is to expand your perspective of what is possible so that you can embark on a different way of doing things. A successful play session of the mind should allow you to pick apart your current mental habits and welcome in contradictory points of view that you’re not accustomed to. The Full Moon in Aquarius takes place this Saturday, August 9 at 2:54am and your inner cosmos wants you to make innovative changes so that you can adapt and expand into your next phase of life experiences.

The Aquarian impulse wants you to go your own way and forge your own path. Aquarius in your natal chart, regardless if you have a planet there or not, is the area of life you can have formative experiences that shape your sense of uniqueness and individuality. Throughout the week, pay attention to this impulse from within especially if you feel impulsive toward something. Tune in to what it might be trying to convey to you as this is how you can become more self-aware of the larger story arc of your life. Or if you just want to dye your hair blue, then dye your hair blue. Who gives a shit?

I want to get more into the Aquarian archetype, specifically the way Aquarius energy works in the mind. One of the key traits of Aquarius is the ability to detach. Detachment can be achieved in a number of ways depending on the person. For example, one person may need to spend a lot of time alone so that they can observe what’s going on around them more clearly. Another person may separate themself from feeling their emotions and instead maintain a stoic presence. The intent isn’t to ignore the emotions, but to analyze them. I’ll write a little more about this below.

Detachment begets perspective, and perspective gained through knowledge and observation is part of the next process of the Aquarian mental map: recognizing patterns and themes. Aquarius wants to know about everything that is affecting the system at large. From here, they can connect the dots of seemingly unrelated things, a skill that most people struggle with.

After pattern recognition occurs, Aquarius is ready to innovate the system. This is why Aquarians are labeled as visionaries and often the first to do or achieve something. They see the world differently than others and if they’re grounded in reality, they can bring this to the masses. Some famous Aquarians include David Bowie (Aquarius Rising), Oprah Winfrey (Aquarius Sun), Barack Obama (Aquarius Rising), Cher (Aquarius Rising), Toni Morrison (Aquarius Sun), Buzz Aldrin (Aquarius Sun), and Nina Simone (Aquarius Rising).

These kinds of qualities aren’t only reserved for people with their Sun or Rising Sign in Aquarius. The archetype lives in all of us and it becomes more activated if you have a planet in the sign or if a current transit in the sky activates it. We are currently experiencing Pluto transiting through the sign of Aquarius which is surfacing innovative disruptions to society and technology over the next 20 years. Pluto surfaces what’s repressed and after the next two decades you may find yourself accepting what you once thought was taboo.

If your Moon is in Aquarius, you will most likely develop your own unique way of experiencing your emotions and your intuition. An Aquarius Moon typically doesn’t prefer to feel their emotions, they’d rather analyze them. This mental process of thinking and analyzing stems from the need to view something from a wider perspective in order to make sense of it. This requires a certain amount of detachment from the feelings and the body’s own wisdom, however nobody can just think their way through life. Detachment can equally be the gift of Aquarius as well as the curse. Too much detachment and you’re not grounded in reality. Not enough and you’re not able to access your unique individuality. An Aquarius Moon may have a tendency to hold their emotions in until they come exploding out. Release is inevitable.

This Full Moon in Aquarius is going to highlight all that I just mentioned. Because Aquarius is about systems, it inherently connects to the system of humanity itself and the fact that humans are all connected as one integrated species. Therefore, this Full Moon will most likely activate a collective awareness about inequitable systems, what’s not working in the world, and potential solutions and dialogue about envisioning a better future for humanity. Who’s vision and what we define as “better” is what’s at stake.

On an individual basis, this Full Moon in Aquarius is the ideal time to give yourself some space to look at your current experience of life through a zoomed out perspective. The gift of Aquarius is objectivity in its ability to think through things. How can you look at something you’ve been avoiding in a new way? Where do you put limits on your point of view? As a photographer, I can’t just approach a subject from one angle, take a few photos, and think that that’s all there is to capture. I need to move around, get low to the ground, or put a different lens on the camera. I also need to look at the surrounding environment and see what’s affecting the subject and seek balance in my composition. These same exact principles apply to how you can see the whole picture of your life so that you can innovate your personal system and construct a life tailored to your individual needs.

I encourage you to spend some time alone this week to think about this in your own life. Are you striving to stand out from the crowd or change your perspective about something? Think about all the things that are feeding into your current system. Your life is the totality of your experience. It’s your health, your relationships, your work, your responsibilities, your leisure, and much more. Be your own visionary and think beyond the blockages that keep you from embracing your own unique individuality. The world doesn’t need more people who think and act the same. Aquarius is about liberation, so set yourself free.

This is part one of my insights about the Aquarius Full Moon. In a few days I’ll send another newsletter about what the other planets are up to. In the meantime, stay grounded and stay freaky.
